Description
Durlacher
Brothers was established in 1843 by Henry and George Durlacher. The New York
branch of the London firm Durlacher Brothers was opened in the 1920s and managed
by Kirk Askew (1903-1974). In 1937 Askew purchased the business from George
Durlacher.
The London records, dating from before Askew's time, were
destroyed by George Durlacher prior to the sale. The records of the New York
branch of the Durlacher Brothers pertain to the management (1920-1937) and
ownership (1937-1974) of Kirk Askew. They are divided into eight series:
Series I. Correspondence and appointment books from 1919-1973 (boxes
