Description
Between 1934 and 1937 Valentin owned and ran an art gallery in the art department of Buchhandlung Buchholz, Berlin. In 1937 he opened the Buchholz Gallery in New York which was renamed the Curt Valentin Gallery in 1951 and functioned until his death in 1955.
The record consists of over one hundred catalogues of exhibitions organised by Curt Valentin at Galerie Alfred Flechtheim in Berlin in 1929 and at the Buchholz Gallery from 1937 until 1948.
Galerie Flechteim specialised in twentieth-century French art but also represented German artists, including George Grosz. Curt Valentin worked for Alfred Flechteim from 1927; he was also the co-editor of the gallery magazine Omnibus , and the exhibitions organiser.
