A two-volume publication on the historical collection of Otto Gerstenberg, the result of a six-year research project dedicated to the reconstruction of the collection. Volume 1 contains several essays that are considered of general interest for provenance research, such as biographical articles about the Jewish collector Heinrich Stahl and the art dealer Alfred Gold. Volume 2 is devoted to the reconstruction of the collection, each piece is given its own provenance record, literature and source references. Among them are several paintings that were sold from the collection of Gerstenberg and acquired early in the Nazi era byJewish collectors including Goldschmidt, Katzenellenbogen, Silberberg, Stahl and Wildenstein.

To coincide with publication of the book, an exhibition of the remaining works owned by the family will open on the 2nd November 2012 at the Scharf-Gerstenberg Museum, National Museum in Berlin, and will include paintings by Daumier, Goya and Toulouse-Lautrec.
