The text of the French law which came into force on 23 July 2023 and enables the deaccessioning of Nazi-spoliated works of art from French public collections can be found at https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/jorf/jo/2023/07/23/0169.
The law is a derogation from the principle of inalienability of works in French public collections and was passed in order to facilitate the restitution of spoliated cultural items in French public collections.
Which assets: Artworks, books, musical instruments, etc.
Which spoliation: Looting, confiscation, 'aryanisation', sales under duress etc in the context of antisemitic persecution.
By whom: GermanNazi authorities, their allies and collaborators, including the Vichy Government of 10 July 1940 - 24 August 1944, individuals inspired by the Nazis and the circumstances.
Time period: Any time during 'Nazi Era', between 30 January 1933 and 8 May 1945.
Where: Anywhere, provided that it was in the context of the antisemitic persecutions (France, Germany, Austria, Poland, other countries in Europe..)
