Title
Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)

Description
The collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario includes European Old Masters, Canadian and international contemporary art.

In 1998, the Board of Trustees of The Art Gallery of Ontario established the Ad Hoc Committee on the Spoliation of Art in Europe (1933-1945) in response to the Report of the AAMD (Association of Art Museum Directors) Task Force on the Spoliation of Art during the Nazi/WWII Era (1933-1945) which has since been adopted by the Canadian Art Museum Directors' Organization. AGO reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to research the provenance of works in its permanent collection, and underlined its adherence to professional ethics. The staff of a Task Force (especially set up by AGO to coordinate provenance research) has started to list and post information on the Internet about paintings, sculptures and drawings of the European Collection which have gaps in their provenance between the years 1933 - 1945. The list, which so far includes 46 art objects and is accompanied by a guide to their provenance research, will be updated as soon as additional provenance research is available.
