Title

Nuremberg Trials Project: A Digital Documents Collection

Description
The Harvard Law School Library is one of the main repositories of the Nuremberg trial records. It has approximately one million pages of documents produced during the trials of military and political leaders of Nazi Germany by the International Military Tribunal (IMT) and the twelve trials of other accused war criminals by the United States Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMT). The documents include trial transcripts, briefs, document books, evidence files and other material.

The library has now begun to publish these documents online. Users will find an introduction to the project, to the documents, and those trials which are being currently digitised or scanned. The first stage of the project is the digitisation of the Medical Case, Case 1 of the NMT trials, held in 1946-1947 in which twenty-three defendants were accused of engaging in fatal medical experiments or procedures. The Harvard collection also includes documents from the IMT hearings on criminal organizations and other papers relating to the trials. Most of the documents are in both English and German (and occasionally other languages). The Harvard project also plans to publish online the English language trial documents and trial transcripts. All the material will be searchable.

One of the trial documents to be made available in the future is Major War Criminals (USA, France, UK, and USSR v. Hermann Goering et al. 1945-46) which contains important material on art looting.
