Description
The Center for Research on Dutch Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
is devoted to the study of the history and culture of the Jews of the Netherlands
from the community's beginnings in the seventeenth century to modern times.
Its field of interest includes both Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jews and encompasses
the community's social organization, literature, thought, art and demographic
development. The geographical focus is on Amsterdam and the smaller towns and
villages outside Amsterdam. Of particular interest is the extensive collection
of family archives and genealogical material including a Dutch Jewish Genealogical
Database and a searchable database listing of all Dutch Jews who perished in
the Holocaust.
