Description
Pierre
Matisse arrived in New York in 1924 and opened his gallery in 1931. Before 1931
he worked as European agent in partnership with the art dealer Valentine Dudensing.
The art Pierre Matisse acquired in Europe was exhibited in Dudensing's
gallery. He represented Miro, Chagall, Balthus, Dubuffet, Giacometti
and Yves Tanguy. The gallery was closed down after his death in 1989.
The archives contain records (1925-1989), exhibition catalogues (1931-
1945), newspaper cuttings, and photographs of exhibitions.
