The suit was filed to recover Pablo Picasso's 'The Actor', 1904-1905, oil on canvas, 77 1/4 x 45 3/8 in, which was owned by Paul Friedrich Leffmann from approximately 1912-1938. The Leffmanns fled to Italy and the suit asserts they were forced to sell the painting in 1938 below value because of persecution. The Museum acquired the painting in 1952.
